Sunday 31st October marks the beginning of
the three-day AllHallowTide: aka Samhain
….a time when the veil between this world and the Otherworld is said to be thinnest.
A time we may connect most deeply with ancestors or deities….
In the Pagan tradition it marks the end of the harvest season:
here in the urban wild we harvest the seeds of the glorious nasturtium
Samhain is considered to be one of the two most important of
the four quarterly fire festivals by the ancient Celts
The fire wheel is symbolized by the sun, and eventually,
everyone would return home with a flame from the town’s bonfire
to light their home’s hearth

Samhain is considered a time to communicate
with the spirits of loved ones who have passed on,
and to commune during this auspicious time
The light is fading and for some it is a time for introspection and
reflection: of going within and acknowledging all is not what
it may appear to be: piercing the veil

….and in popular culture, what was once an ancient pagan ritual and feast,
has morphed into Halloween: our street here in Bristol made a wonderful
event: decorating, houses, gardens and sharing goodwill…beautiful
sadly I didn’t partake as was surfing a tsunami of a hideous virus (non-covid❣️)
great gratitude for this precious human life,
for being alive, for friendship, love, community…
and where is gratitude embodied?
