Samhain
is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season
and beginning of winter, the ‘darker half’ of the year
Marked by great gatherings and feasts,
ancient burial mounds were open –
seen as portals to the Otherworld.
Also an important date in the Pagan calendar
it marks the Feast of the Dead
Celts believed that the barrier between worlds
was breachable during Samhain,
prepared offerings were left outside villages
and in fields for fairies, or Sidhs
Samhain is also associated with ritual bonfires and sacrifices

The light is fading……
for some, a time of introspection &
reflection:
of going within and acknowledging all is not what
it seems,
a piercing of the veil, common to all ancient traditions
symbolised here by The Eye of Horus
equivalent in some traditions to the brain’s pineal gland
Samhain morphed into the feast of All Hallows in the christian tradition
a time dedicated to remembering the dead and all the faithful departed
later becoming present day Halloween
continuing the theme of the mystical
